POS Counter Design

I designed this point of sales counter for a client that has a baby couture brand. I was happy with the outcome of the french inspired look and feel. I have also enjoyed learning about the various Joinery and Shopfitting methods available. There is so much to learn - I wish there was a handbook that would teach me all I need to know.

PEARL OF THE DAY

The real world can be tough, but as they say its all about the little things.
I have come to realize it is important to keep your own dreams alive, to be creative
and do what makes you happy. No one can take your design and creativity away from you.
Tough times can make you feel less enthused, but never buy into someones perception into who they think you are or ought to be.

What makes me happy? Small victories.

Received the prints from my magazine interview and they have lifted the spirits. :)

Luminaire

Product design is a lot of fun for me. I really enjoy getting my hands dirty and feeling my way through to the completion of a project. I enjoyed designing and making these lights. 

‘Luminaire’ as an innovative light fitting was inspired by the idea of ‘manna’ - or ‘blessings from above’ and designed to fit into the theme and architecture of a building intended as a food emporium. An emporium however that embodied a sense of wonderment and gratitude for all food and food types within the context of ‘our daily bread’.  Designed to hang from the high heavenly ceiling the light fitting was constructed to look as though ‘manna’ was falling from heaven to earth in a fructifying gesture of pollination and insemination. 

To this end I used an ostrich egg as a mould to initiate the construction process for the actual light fittings and using resin as the medium of construction I fabricated these fittings using lace and lace imprints relying on the feminine associations these invoke.  Tiny 10 watt incandescent bulbs were fitted on the inside of these moulds.  I also created multiple tiny fragile resin moulds from chicken egg shells that caught and scattered the light and these were hung randomly in between the larger light moulds in order to realize the form as a whole.   All the moulds were then positioned on a mounting plate that was cut from wood and lime washed the electric fittings hidden on the upper surface of the plate.

Multimedia

Arts and crafts meets design, I enjoy multimedia forms of presentation. This method was particularly useful for my Btech design that was centrally inspired by arts and crafts.

Lumion

I discovered Lumion last year and I found it to be a great program to put together design concepts over night. The rendering and lighting quality isn't as amazing as 3d AutoCad, but it is highly effective in showing design ideas. Below are a few of my 3ds from Btech.
